For my Applications of Thermodynamics course, my team was tasked with analyzing an airplane engine using the Brayton Cycle. The goal was to create two engines for our, hypothetical, Uncle Ernie’s two Quest Kodiak turboprop aircraft each optimized for a different purpose. The first engine was optimized to increase the thermal efficiency of the engine while maintaining the current horsepower. The second engine was designed to maximize horsepower while maintaining thermal efficiency. Both improvements are compared to the basic Brayton cycle model for the engine.
