In search of something that would help me better understand people’s personalities and myself, I attended a workshop titled “True Colors.” In this workshop I learned of a communication system that has brought me a step closer to communication success. The activity was based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. This survey consisted of approximately 32 questions where my end result was INFJ which means that I am a reflective, introspective, and creative person. However, I did not completely agree with the result, therefore, I took another survey available known as the Big Five Model.
The highest score fell under conscientiousness. This category represents someone who is responsible, dependable, persistent and achievement oriented which I feel depicts me accurately. In second place was extraversion- someone who is sociable, talkative and assertive. I have a self-monitoring personality meaning I try to adjust to whichever situation I find myself. Therefore, even though the tests contradict in the area of introvert and extrovert I believe I am both depending on the situation.
Knowing these exact characteristic of myself I’ve enhanced my brand and advertise my skills (dependable and achievement oriented) which I believe most employers seek. Another attribute that I will focus myself on will be the Organizational Citizenship behavior- someone who does not limit themselves to their job description but tries their best to increase and enhance the organization’s performance. During the workshop the guest speaker asked us to form a group of 4. They gave us an assimilation of a conflict in the workforce. We were able to see different personalities when solving the assimilation. This gave me a real life experience as to how to solve a problem and which personalities I work best with.
I highly encourage people to attend these kind of workshops they help us learn more about ourselves and allows us to improve weak areas or fortify those we excel.
