As part of my learning journey in this subject and in my career, I completed this module, "Working Ethically in the IT Industry."
One of the most valuable aspects of this module was its emphasis on the foundational role of ethics in the IT industry, particularly how ethical decision-making impacts not only individuals but society as a whole. I appreciated learning about different ethical frameworks, such as utilitarianism, the rights approach, and fairness, but what stood out was how these principles apply practically in areas like privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, and the responsibilities of IT professionals. The module highlighted real-world challenges, like the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica scandal, making it clear how crucial it is for IT professionals to act with integrity and accountability. Understanding how to navigate complex ethical dilemmas while balancing professional standards and societal impact was incredibly insightful, and it reinforced the idea that ethics in IT isn’t just a compliance checklist, it’s about building trust, protecting rights and ensuring responsible innovation.
