Going home, eating turkey, and spending time with the most important people seems like the best way to celebrate thanksgiving. However, this does not really apply to international students, so we (9 international students from different countries) went to Mammoth instead. We rented a house, cooked microwavable turkey and stuffing, and ski. We might not be able to fly home but we got a chance to go on a trip with different people, which broadened my horizons again. We talked about different cultures, holidays, and things we did in our own countries. The most amazing was the feeling that we actually did spend the time like a family.
Being an international student is not easy, because I do miss home or feel alone when tired. However, what I get is learning how to adapt myself with different people with different cultures, and how to look at the positive side and appreciate what I have right now right here :)
