As part of a two-semester class, my team and I proposed, designed, researched, and contextualized an original project. We wrote a formal proposal asking to investigate the cyberpsychology and viability of a smart mirror product in the modern marketplace. We conducted extensive online research into past studies in the field and identified a need for specific information. Our research would focus on smart mirrors specifically, rather than general smart home devices.
To gather data, we built a working prototype smart mirror and surveyed students on their opinions on the potential product. We then analyzed and interpreted the data to relate it back to smart mirror viability. Overall, we found that smart mirrors are a product that consumers like and should be considered by major technology companies.
Working on this project taught me how to design a research project that expands on past work and adds new information to the field instead of being self-contained.
