USAID welcome innovations that center on women and accelerate their adoption of regenerative agriculture, enhanced farm management practices, and establish regular interface with agricultural extension experts and advisory services. There is strong support for innovative solutions from lead farmers, including those that actively engage female family members and workers in new ways to address many of the challenges identified below:
Drive potato farm performance through improved regenerative agriculture practices that
increase production and improve quality metrics
● Increase numbers of agricultural training, especially on fertilizers, chemical application
and seed storage, offer regular technical assistance support, and ensure training is
delivered in a gender-sensitive way.
● Gender-smart capacity building and hands-on training for the entire family in preplanting and post-harvest handling practices.
● Consider creating a logistics center, especially with leading female farmers.
Drive potato farm performance through inclusive farm management practices
● Both lead and cooperating farmers need more training in farm management,
administration, record-keeping, inter-generational planning, and financial literacy.
Sexual/reproductive health opportunities in the selected department:
● Introduce reproductive health education and resources, alongside farm management and financial literacy support, to address the region’s high rate of teenage pregnancy.
