Our Unit 3 project was to make a PSA poster about a topic that Mr. Talbott would give my group and I. The first activity was to choose a group leader and I ended up having the most votes.

We were given the topic of social media addiction.

Our first activity was to research (on our own) 10 facts about the subject and then gather as a group and write it on a big poster paper.

For our second activity, we came up with different mottos or slogans we can have for the PSA poster. Mr. Talbott wanted some type of information of the topic that we are raising awareness about. At the end of our discussion about what to pick, what really stuck was: "Look Up! 50% of teens say they're addicted to their cell phones."

After that, we were to look up at least 6 PSA poster designs online and what styles we would like to reference and why. I wrote comments on the photos on Google Docs explaining those points.

I had so many ideas flooding in my mind, but we weren't going digital quite yet. We made 4 idea sketches, then 1 "map" for the idea we thought was the best. The "map" was colored and had notes saying what color was going to be what and details about the poster that we needed to remember when making it digitally.

When we finally got to make it digitally, I was so excited and this poster taught me so many new techniques. I was able to play with the blend modes on Photoshop more and I also learned how to make the gradient in the "Look up" as well as the gradient on the bottom. I watched a lot of YouTube tutorials and graphic design tips to try and make this poster look as modern as possible. I did use a picture of a man holding a phone but the project needed 1 aspect to be drawn, so I drew the man like I did in my original "map".

After finishing the digitization of our drawn "map", we were given critique by other members of the group. One critique that I won't forget is how Henry Tran (one of my friends and one of the group members) told me that the white text on black highlight was bland and needed something more interesting. This changed everything. I went back to my work and tried to incorporate a speech bubble instead of just text telling you the information.

The critique definitely made my work better.
