Understanding the Evidence-Based Learning Map’s Cycle
Through 4 Stage Definitions and Interactions

1) Planning Stage- Uses guided questions and any additional resources to develop an instructional map/learning plan designed to ensure for all learners: 1) meaningful academic achievement; 2) social-emotional thriving and 3) an equitable and inclusive community of learners.
2) Teaching Stage- Uses the instructional map/learning plan developed during the Planning stage to synthesize a short and focused ‘game plan/agenda’ (e.g. 3x5 cards, outline, chart) designed to assist the teacher during the actual teaching event. The agenda addresses the 6 critical elements in the Learning Map and structures the implementation of the learning plan.
3) Analyzing-Reflecting Stage-During this stage, candidates analyze multiple forms of evidence to develop insights to “transform” their thinking about TK-12 students, themselves as teachers, the targets, assessments, instruction and management of the learning environments.
4) Applying Stage-In this stage, candidates apply 1) new information gained about the learner; 2) what they have learned about their own teaching practices and beliefs; 3) understandings about content standards, goals, and outcomes; as well as 4) the effect of assessments, instructional strategies, and management approaches to create future learning plans for all students.
