Objectives of the team :

1. To design and fabricate a remote-controlled aircraft conforming to the Regular Class SAE Aero Design® West competition requirements for the year 2014.

2. To design, build and fly a regular class cargo aircraft, in compliance with the rules and regulations of SAE Aero-Design East for the year 2015.

Design Philosophy:

1. For the year 2014, This project required our team to work as one unit and indulge in studying the concepts of flight dynamics, aerodynamics, electronics, mechanics and computational analysis. This year, the primary objectives included eliminating the mistakes made in the preceding year’s competition and improving design along with fabrication, by building a 1/3 scale prototype. We targeted at using available resources in building an aircraft capable of lifting 20 lbs of payload, in accordance with the requirements set forth by SAE.

2. For the year 2015, The principal targets set forth were three-fold: maximization of lift, minimization of drag and optimization of accessible resources. The process began with brainstorming through the concepts of mechanics, aerodynamics, propulsion systems and avionics. A prototype was then fabricated to test the accuracy of the new design.
