Sweet Phoenix is Cal Poly SLO's Human Powered Vehicle (HPV) which competed in the 2015 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) HPV Challenge West. It is a fully faired recumbent tricycle that was designed more for utility than speed to keep up with ASME's push for more utilitarian vehicles. The innovation this year was a rollover detection system, which consisted of a series of LEDs that were in view of the rider and would change from green to yellow then red if the rider was pushing the vehicle too hard and getting closer to rolling over. Well over 1,000 hours man hours was put into the designing, making, and testing of Sweet Phoenix.
