The assignment that I am reflecting on is the “Spinach & Spanish Reaction” discussion post. For this assignment, I had to watch a thirsty second video of two kids interacting with each other. The little boy says the word “spinach” while the girl responded back “Spanish,” thinking that she said “spinach.” The boy noticed that she said the Spanish and corrected her saying that Spanish is a language like “Como estas! That’s nothing you eat.” From there she says other “Spanish words” even though the words she says are not Spanish. I explained how the two individuals were interacting with each other which relates to the interaction theory. For the little girl who is trying to learn from the little boy, they are both kids who are developing knowledge from each other. In my discussion post, I wrote: “The way she interacts with the boy is the perception of how she sees and hears things.” I find this true because as kids we are developing our language and learning new things in our world. As a baby or little kid, they have little to no knowledge about things in our world. This assignment has improved my analytical skills because the video has made me think about what the two kids are doing and how this relates to sociology. With little knowledge of sociology, I did not understand how this related to sociology other than the comprehension that the little kids had. I learned that there is not right or wrong answers with analyzing the subject. It is like a guess or theory. With this assignment, I was able to give my own input and what I thought of this video. With this skill, I am able to apply it to other courses. Many of my classes require analyzing subjects. Also, I think that using analytical skills can benefit me outside of school. There are many things that uses analytical skills, especially if I had a job that requires that.
