In our spanish class we were to make a family tree to represent what our family and cultures were about. The purpose of my Spanish family tree was to explore our culture and family past so that we can learn more about our roots and where we came from. It was also made for us to practice our Spanish tenses and get familiarized with using them. The Spanish teacher wanted us to get deep with where we came from and who we really are as a family, and to explore and teach the class about our family and how we are together. We had to make either a poster or a PowerPoint presentation to showcase seven of our family members and describe each of them. We had to include a paragraph for each family member and write about what type of person they were and what they did. The difficult part was that, since this is AP Spanish, we had to write the paragraph using the past, present, and future tense and each of those have their own sub category which are imperfect, and preterit. Those tenses had to be showcased in each paragraph to show that we learned how to properly use them.
One ICLEAR strategy I used to complete this work was collaboration. I collaborated with my parents by asking them what it was like when they lived in Mexico. By using collaboration I learned that it is faster when you collaborate with others because then you don't slack off as much as when you are alone. With this piece of work we had to present our work in PowerPoint, or poster form. My older sister helped me a lot in making sure that the poster had everything it needed and that it looked good when it was being presented.
A second ICLEAR strategy I used to complete this work was Inquiry. I used Inquiry in the way that I had to ask myself what kind of information I wanted to put on the paragraphs I was supposed to write. I asked myself questions like, "What were my parents like before?" And "How do I incorporate all the tenses in one paragraph?", and other questions on how to make my poster look good. What I learned about my work by using Inquiry was that Inquiry is required before every project that we do because we have to ask ourselves certain questions in order for us to make sure we have everything needed. It has helped me to understand Inquiry more because I now use it more when I do my projects and other works.
A final ICLEAR strategy I used to complete this work was Research. I used research because I didn't know much about my family in Mexico and so I had to ask them myself. What I learned about my topic while using research is that Research is needed to find out specific information. Also that research doesn't always mean going on the computer and looking up stuff about your topic, research is finding out something you didn't already know. I used my own grandparents and parents as my sources to find out information that I needed. What I learned about myself as a learner is that when I research something I need to keep on going back and finding out more because sometimes I don't think it is enough.
