In March of 2019, I spent five weeks Executive Producing the creation of a comedy play from conception to production. This project was done independently with an all freshman team.
Our team of ten writers wrote 12 sketches, 9 pre-recorded parody commercials, and a narrative story for our show about a live studio audience children's show gone wrong. The 70-seat theater was overflowing with nearly 100 audience members in attendance.
A speck of an idea from our five-person writer's group became an hour long production in the short span of a month. Through this immersive experience, I learned how to take care of myself to avoid burnout, how to delegate, and the importance of valuing my team. Most of all, this experience taught me to trust my creative intuition. I thought this opportunity was above my skill level and ended up proving myself wrong. I grew through this experience by taking a risk, and I plan to utilize these lessons in my future creative endeavors.
