Senior design is a class taken by all senior engineering students at George Fox University. Students are placed in groups and assigned two faculty/industry advisors.

Our group was to work with the VAC Group, and Australian company specializing in vacuum excavation and soil disposal, to improve a design of a device worked on for a 2016-17 project. The device is a system of LIDAR units creating a perimeter fence around a work site. The previous group had created a prototype, but improvements were necessary to take the product to the desired level. Our task as the mechanical half of a larger team, was to add a rotation element, improve durability and manufacturability, and to meet any other specifications requested by the client.
