Roy Lichtenstein, "In the Car" (detail), 1963. Oil, magna and graphite on canvas.
Dimensions 172 cm × 203.5 cm (67.75 in × 80.125 in)

What do you perceive to be the strongest formal attributes of the work? Color and tone seem to be the most important attributes. The color seems to be important because only certain things in the image are vibrant while others are grey and dull. The tone varies between lightness and darkness. The artist uses ben-day dots, thick outlines, and primary colors.

What is the subject matter? The subject matter is comic book figures and in this particular scene; a guy and girl in the car from a romantic comic series.

What is the content (or concept) of the work? (You may need to do some light research.) The content suggests that Lichtenstein produced several "fantasy drama" paintings of women in love affairs with domineering men.

Do the formal elements, subject matter, and/or medium help inform the content or concept? If so, how? Yes, the primary colors and ben-day dots portray the artwork as comic book series one may be familiar with when seeing which was this artists' main composition (comic strips).
