There is nothing worse than trying to access your WordPress website and seeing the White Screen of Death (WSoD). Both administrators and users of your website are unable to access it because of this problem.

Due to the dearth of evidence suggesting a probable cause or remedy, the WSoD may also be immensely irritating. But it's also one of the most typical WordPress mistakes. Therefore, despite worrying, it may usually be resolved.

In this article, we'll define the WordPress WSoD and outline some of its typical causes. Most importantly, we'll guide you through nine potential fixes so that you may quickly restore the functionality of your website.

Your first objective will be to resolve the WordPress White Screen of Death as soon as you can. Let's look at nine potential ways you may utilize to address it with that in mind.

Boost the memory limit

This issue often happens when a script stops in the midst of running because it has run out of memory. You must give WordPress more PHP RAM in order to fix this issue. As a result, the script will be able to utilise additional memory to finish the task at hand. Memory problems may also cause other types of failures, such as HTTP Image Upload Error in WordPress and Upload: Failed to Write File to Disk error.

Files or folder with a bad file permission

Problems may still arise due to ownership and permission restrictions. It's possible that certain particular files or directories are not set up correctly. The easiest fix for this is to immediately adjust the permissions of the file or folder through FTP using the values 755 for folders and 644 for files (with very few exceptions).

Due to this, we haven't experienced a white screen of death, but permission and ownership difficulties may still arise. Who knows, it may result in a white screen of death in certain cases! WordPress File and Folder Permissions may be fixed.

Turn off or on all WordPress plugins.

You should start debugging if raising the memory limit does not resolve the issue or if you have a high memory limit, such as 256M or 512M. In our experience, a particular plugin or theme has always been the cause of this issue.

Let's proceed and turn off all of your plugins. You need go back to your wp-content folder first. You need to rename the Plugins folder this time.

Simply go to the Plugins »Installed Plugins page if you can still access the WordPress administrative area. Select "Disable" from the "Global Actions" drop-down menu after selecting all of the installed plugins.

Use Default to Change Your Current Theme

Try switching your existing theme with a default theme if investigating the plugin does not resolve the issue. Simply activate a default theme, such Twenty Nineteen or Twenty-Twenty, to do this. Unfortunately, you will need to use your web host's file manager (like cPanel's File Manager) or FTP or sFTP (it's like a secure version of FTP) to fix the problem since it was caused by a bug on your website. It's vital to understand that if you change the theme, the specifics of your original theme will still apply.

What if white was just present on the admin page? See this WordPress admin white screen of death instruction after that.
