RECONSTRUCTION OF ROUTE 1/ROUTE 286, IN SALISBURY, MA. Project involved the reconstruction of a four-way signalized intersection based on a road safety audit with the help of a fellow student. Information was gathered about the area context, design speed range, land use, design vehicles/pedestrian use, and functional classification. After analyzing the RSA and gathering information, the main goals were to reduce congestion on approach and reduce turning movement collisions. The final solutions involved replacing the four-way intersection with a roundabout. This solution will reduce the amount and severity of turning movement crashes and help traffic flow in a more efficient manner. This also allowed for the area to have access to pedestrian and bicycle facilities that it previously did not have. The new design was made in Civil 3D involving MASSDOT standards for a planset. The use of AASHTO, NCHRP, and MASSDOT guidelines were used to come to this solution.
