Worked on a team to design and built a remote-controlled hydrofoil kayak capable of basic in-water navigation, agility, and control, as well as controlled hull-out-of-water operation along a specified water course. In addition, served as the project manager with responsibilities to order supplies, manage budget, keep track of interim process, and keep team organized and on track.
Implemented a canard configuration with a frontal rudder and stabilization system.
Used SolidWorks to model full-body hydrofoil kayak and determine thrust requirements using FEA and CFD analysis.
Modified a 55-lb outboard motor to allow for RC transmitting and receiving.
Used servo motors directly attached to ailerons and the frontal rudder to control yaw and roll (turning).
Constructed hydrofoils by 3D printing selected NACA airfoil profiles, shaping insulation foam to the desired shape, coating the foam in latex paint to protect the foam, and layering the hydrofoils in fiberglass.
