For this project, my team and I had the opportunity and privilege to design a solution for the Design Culture and Creativity Honors College Program at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Design Cultures & Creativity (DCC) Living and Learning Program at the University of Maryland is an interdisciplinary honors program that focuses on fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation. Students in the program fulfill requirements to earn their citations at the end of their two-year coursework. My team was tasked with improving how students can track their progress, as well as self-reporting their statuses for lab hours and electives, all contained within a centralized system that is both visual and intuitive. The approach we took to combat this problem was to use DMAIC, which stands for: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control.

Using the DMAIC process, my team was able to clearly understand DCC's problem statement, while also coming up with solutions and ideas in an efficient manner. Through conducting interviews with faculty, advisors, and the students, we were able to better understand the problem through multiple perspectives and also understand what the population wants in the proposed solution.

After thorough research, surveying, and brainstorming amongst the team, it was decided that the problem is that the honors citation requirements are too haphazard amongst many platforms. To combat this problem, which was deduced using a fishbone diagram, we aimed to centralize the tracking citation process on the DCC website itself.

Modeled after a degree audit, Storm Area 33 designed a citation audit system that displays all of the DCC requirements in a single centralized place. Students can access the citation audit on the DCC website and connect to it via their ELMS login. As part of the solution, the team specifically wanted to integrate the Central Authentication System that is already in place in most, if not all, UMD digital services.

This final QUEST project was a great way to wrap up the semester and really portray all the skills I have learned through the process.
