For my final project in Paleoanthropology, I researched one of the most famous fossils in the world, Australopithecus afarensis 288-1, more commonly known as Lucy. Discovered in Hadar, Ethiopia in 1974, this skeleton at the time was the most complete early hominid found with 40% of the skeleton completely intact, and it had monumental effects on the archeological perspective on early humans. My research focused on her origins, history, the species itself, and the overall importance of her discovery.
