OTD Theme 5.2 - Critical Thinking for Practice

Outcome:
Characterize the scope of OT practice so that contributions from other healthcare providers and community collaborators can be integrated to fulfill unmet needs and improve participation.

Reflection:
In the class Foundations of Occupational Therapy, we were tasked to compare the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) and the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework (OTPF). Both the ICF and OTPF have been used to analyze occupational health and there are connections that exist between the two. While the OTPF is the main diagnosis tool I will use, seeing other perspectives is useful. In comparing the two, I was able to better understand the specialization that Occupational Therapy provides.

In my group, we sussed out the connections between the two and through that, we were able to get a better picture of the domain of OT. Seeing the intersections showcased what makes up the fundamental concepts of the profession. While to our group the concept map makes sense, cleaning up the lines could have made it clearer.

Gaining an understanding of what OTs specialize in gives me the knowledge I need to show my worth to a healthcare team and to the field of healthcare in general. It will give me the foothold I need to help patients with my knowledge and training.
