Freshman year at George Fox University, engineering students are tasked to design, model, machine, and assembly a working oscillating air engine. At the end of the semester, students would compete with their personal engines in one of 5 categories: Speed, Torque, Coast, Air Efficiency, or Cost Efficiency. I chose the goal of maximum Coast and, after a total of 147.5 design hours and 77.5 fabrication hours, broke the previous record of 5 minutes in Coast with a personal best of 9 min. 29 sec (longest in the competition), got the second-highest speed reached of 4200 RPM on 15 pis, and 3-way tied for best engine design, out of all the competitors.
