This objective focuses on my development in ensuring the safety of patients under my care and the dedication to providing quality care in the future. I feel this is the most important job of a nurse, ensuring the care provided to a patient is the safest and achieves the best outcome for the patient. Artifact 9A displays my case study of a cord prolapse scenario during my OB clinical. This assignment gave me the opportunity to see a client undergo a medical emergency and research the rationales behind the lifesaving interventions performed by the nursing team during the birth. In my care map, not only do I address the safety measures emergent for the care of the patient, but I also explore the future risks that the client will need to be prepared for in order to generate a positive outcome. Artifact 9B details an interaction between myself and a patient who wished to leave the hospital AMA. While it is always the patients’ right to guide their care, this client was considered to be incapable of making medical decisions, which meant it was unsafe for him to decide to leave the hospital until he was medically cleared by the nursing staff. Even though decisions like this are incredibly difficult at the time, it is important to maintain focus to ensure the patient is kept safe from harm while supplying quality care.
