Utilize ethical principles and critical decision-making skills to function as a leader and advocate within healthcare systems.

This was a collaboration project where writer and peer did a presentation a quality improvement process around CAUTI. We discussed the impact of CAUTI in hospital systems from cost, training to patient outcome. We focused on statistics nationwide, financial implications, preventions, interventions and most importantly created a timeline of who we would like this process implemented. While COVID took the front line when it comes to infections, Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is the most common healthcare-associated infection and cause of secondary bloodstream infections. Despite many advances in diagnosis, prevention and treatment, CAUTI remains a severe healthcare burden, and antibiotic resistance rates are alarmingly high. We also discussed Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Action Plan as examples of a comprehensive systematic analysis that is intended to provide a template for analyzing an event and an aid in organizing the steps and information in RCA when determining the root cause of CAUTI. It is important for direct care workers to know that for each finding there is the need to continue to ask “Why?” and drill down further to uncover why parts of the process occurred or didn’t occur when they should have. Significant findings that are not identified as root causes themselves have “roots.” “Corrective Actions” should be developed for every identified root cause.
The next assignment was a blog “How Nursing Informatics Can Improve Healthcare in psychiatric hospitals”. This writer discussed how nursing informatics is improving patient care health in several ways. This writer did research and noted that there is an assumption that psychiatric nurses are late adopters of technology because psychiatric nursing has been traditionally viewed as a nontechnological nursing specialty. This blog focused on outlining the value and significance of computers and information technologies to psychiatric nursing. Great experience earned by this writer as to how to write a blog to convey messages in a manner that speaks to facts and implications of lack of technology in healthcare organizations. Utilizing the knowledge, I have gained from this objective will allow me to continue to integrate ethical principles and critical decision-making skills to function as a leader and advocate within healthcare systems.
