NASA’s Urban Air Mobility Design Challenge aims for the design of a fully autonomous unmanned aircraft system drone that is a low-noise, reliable, safe, and profitable vehicle capable of delivering small packages via the air. Along with the design of the UAS vehicle, we must create the landing platform to optimize the delivery and recharging of the vehicle. The Autonomous Package Procuring Aerial Drone (APPA Drone) is a hexacopter, fully electric delivery drone designed to fulfill the challenges for NASA's Urban Air Mobility Challenge which sets out to create a profitable package delivery drone and system that is safe and reliable. The APPA Drone is designed to reduce manufacturing, maintenance, and labor costs. Combining efficiency with reliability and performance the APPA Drone utilizes outrunner brushless motors, strong carbon fiber low-noise propellers, a capable package loading mechanism, cutting edge wireless charging technology, fully autonomous systems for auto piloting and delivery, and materials specifically chosen for being earth friendly.
