Position Statement
Develop a position statement explaining how knowing NAEYC Standard 5 will support you as an early childhood professional by answering the following prompts:
As an Early Childhood Professional, I promise to maintain outcomes and standards set forth by The National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC), and I will also maintain an environment that promotes healthy behaviors and protects young children against issues related to maintaining a safe and healthy environment for staff, children and family.
Discuss why it is important to know NAEYC health standards.
The rationale for this standard offers education and a better quality of life, for children to be healthy. The physical, moral, mental, and social wellbeing are important to the growth and development of young children. Promoting and protecting children means making healthy choices, and teaching them to make healthy choices, the standard also promotes the importance of safety by preventing hazards and keeping the environment safe.
Explain how this knowledge will support creating a healthy environment.
By teachers having the knowledge to support creating a healthy environment they must address health practices that are safe and healthy for children, families, and communities by practicing standards for hand washing, dispersing medications, and diapering. Equally important, all children and staff must be immunized, and free of communicable diseases, also staff should receive annual training in CPR, and first aid, as well as, up to date trainings in other areas as needed.
Identify at least two actions for you to promote child health consistent with the NAEYC standards.
Two actions I will do to promote children’s health consistent with NAEYC standards are teaching children to take care of their teeth by brushing at school after meals; also provide community activities that involve bringing dental technicians into the school, to teach proper brushing techniques, each child will receive a new toothbrush and toothpaste. To promote a healthy environment, I will then incorporate the importance of taking care of your teeth; another action I can take is to ensure each child is washing their hands appropriately by keeping the handwashing sink separate from the sink where emergencies and universal precautions are handled.
