The database project is a group-based project where each group designs and populates a database and performs queries over their completed database. The domain or ‘mini-world’ of our project is information to do with movies. This data was originally a project by Gio Wiederhold for his class at Stanford University. The raw data is encoded into both XML and HTML formats and a link was provided to a webpage that describes the data in each file. Much of the data in the HTML and XML files is corrupted, inconsistent, or incomplete in some way. This was one of the challenges we had to address when we went to load the data into the database. We were using PostgreSQL as our DBMS.
