I designed and fabricated an embedded system to control a microfluidic aerosol collection device for the US Department of Defense. I implemented an autonomous finite state machine (FSM) design using Arduino Nano & Raspberry Pi, which greatly reduced overall power consumption by reducing microcontroller utilization and using low-power actuators.
I also managed a small team of undergraduate interns, who aided me in the design and validation of the mechanical and electrical subsystems of the device. I assigned weekly work packages to my interns which achieved necessary design and testing milestones for our sponsors while providing them with cogent design and research experience for their careers.
