The film that went along with this essay highlighted several social issues such as poverty and women's role in society. I believed that the central theme that was being broadcast to viewers was the exploitation of innocent human beings. Maria has no job, little education, and resides in a small town in the country of Colombia. With limited opportunities, she gets involved with drug trafficking, acting as a mule so that she can carry drugs into the United States. I wrote this essay to argue my point of view to the theme of human exploitation as Maria was never viewed as a human since she was portrayed as a vessel to transport goods.
