The goal of our marble sorting project was to design an automated system to accurately sort 20 marbles or 4 types in under 30 seconds. The types of marbles were wood, steel, oversize, and clear glass. To sort them, we designed 3 systems. The first one sorted the marbles based on size. We did this by 3D printing track with holes in it small enough only to let small sized marbles through. Next, we used a paper with slits in it to sort the more dense steel marbles from the wooden and glass marbles. Finally, we used a light sensor to sort the wooden marbles and glass marbles. All of the designs were built in VEX robotics.
