CONTENT KNOWLEDGE:
"Teachers must have a deep and flexible understanding of their content areas and be able to draw upon content knowledge as they work with learners to access information, apply knowledge in real world settings, and address meaningful issues to assure learner mastery of the content. Today’s teachers make content knowledge accessible to learners by using multiple means of communication, including digital media and information technology. They integrate cross-disciplinary skills (e.g., critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, communication) to help learners use content to propose solutions, forge new understandings, solve problems, and imagine possibilities. Finally, teachers make content knowledge relevant to learners by connecting it to local, state, national, and global issues."

Music is a passion for many people, especially those who choose to make it their career. I loved studying music for my four undergraduate years, and I still continue my reading, listening, playing, and learning today. I cannot wait to share this love with my future students and teach them how music can improve their lives in so many various ways. To me, this category of standards is about sharing. The love of music can be infectious!

This is not just about me sharing my passion for and knowledge of music with my students; it is about my students learning the knowledge and skills needed for them to share their music with their family, friends, and communities. As stated in one of my pieces of evidence, “Music is a collective cultural experience that catalyzes human connection.” Music has intrinsic value in our society, and I plan to make this a frequent topic for discussion in my future classroom!
