In my senior year of high school I developed a project to design and build my own wind tunnel and validate the split rudder design for a flying wing. The tunnel provided for a test section of two feet wide by one and a half feet tall with a wind speed of 60 miles per hour. I designed and built a balance that outputted the amount of lift, drag, roll, and yaw that were exerted during testing. Using the B-2 as a reference I designed and 3D printed a flying wing design with a split rudder at different angle.
When testing I validated the hypothesis that a split rudder could be used to effectively yaw a flying wing aircraft. After completion of the project I donated the Tunnel and flying wing model to my high school so that it would have continue use in the classroom.
