The air motor project was the final project for the IME 142 class. Our section of the lab worked as a production team to produce 30 air motors in 2 days. Each student was responsible for one part of the air motors. I was responsible for the flywheel portion of the air motor, which is the large spinning cylinder on one end of the air motor.

We were given a casted flywheel that we first had to use a reamer on to ream the center of the flywheel to the correct size, and check the size of the hole with a go/no go gauge. Then, the flywheel was fixed to the LeBlond lathe with a special faceplate to fix the flywheel to the centerline datum of the lathe. The outer diameter of the flywheel was turned to create a smooth flat surface finish. A facing operation, and chamfer operation was applied to the front as well as the back of the flywheel on the LeBlond lathe.
