There is currently national push, endorsed by the National Rifle Association, for all states to recognize a citizen’s second amendment right to bear arms (NRA-ILA, 2015). Recently Idaho became the eighth state to allow their residences eighteen and older to carry a firearm within the state without a concealed carry permit (NRA-ILA, 2016). By adopting the current “Permitless Carry” law (also known as “Constitutional Carry”), the state went from requiring residents to take a firearm safety class to be able to carry concealed to requiring no permit or education at all to be able to carry within the state (State of Idaho, 2016). Considering lack of firearms education contributes to negligent discharges and accidental deaths involving firearms (NSSF, 2013), I anticipate this new law will have a negative effect on public safety.
