Laminate floors have a protective wear layer above the particle board or hardwood underneath our floors. These laminated protective layers can easily wear due to scratches and dents if not properly maintained. So, you must know the proper ways to protect the floor to have a long life of the floor and prevent damage in it. Therefore, in this article, we will be discussing the different methods you can use to protect a laminate floor and avoid damage to it in an effective manner.

Here we are going to discuss the reasons for scratches in a laminate floor and the best ways to avoid them to have a long life on the flooring.

Furniture Legs

People drag lightweight furniture around the house and the legs might damage the laminate causing scratches. We use both heavyweight and light weight furniture. But we often displace the light weighted ones from their place.

So, to avoid the legs from scratching the floors, you can use two methods. Either you can use a protective pad under the legs, or you can use mats like logo mats or rugs. Sometimes, it is best to use both these fixes to have better protection of the laminate.

Prevent Dust from Entrances

It is not only the drags of furniture that might cause the scratches. But the minute dust particles enter the house will also create microscopic scratches to the laminate and eventually cause them to peel off from the wood.

You can prevent the dust from spreading on the floor using two ways. Either you have to use proper door mats, or you have to regularly vacuum the area to prevent dust accumulation.

It is best to use doormats and regular cleaning simultaneously because it will offer better dust control over the floor and saves it.

Replace Plastic Caster wheels with Rubber Wheels

Certain furniture types might use wheels for easy transport or displacement. For example, office chairs widely use plastic caster wheels. But these plastic wheels will damage the laminate whenever you drag them around. They also tend to be sharp and edgy than rubber wheels.

So, it is better to replace these wheels with rubber casters and you can drag the furniture around as per your wish.

Drop down humidity levels

The problem with humidity is that they can easily soften the laminate floors and if there are scratches or dents present in the covering, the moisture will get into it. This can cause swelling and peeling of the laminates.

So, you must try to keep the humidity levels at a minimum, and with the help of an air conditioner, you can maintain it properly.

Conclusion

These are the major things you must do to protect the laminate flooring and aid its long life of it. Therefore, if you have laminate on the flooring, it is important to follow these guidelines to prevent it from getting damaged.
