How to Get a Learner's Permit (Class CP)
1. Plan Your Visit Ahead of Time
You may fill out some information online before visiting a Department of Driver Services (DDS) customer service facility to apply for your Georgia learner's permit. To sign up, you'll need an email address and identification papers. A birth certificate or a US passport are examples of papers you may submit.
Your Social Security number and evidence of school attendance will also be required. This may be accomplished by presenting a high school report card, enrollment verification, or transcript.
2. Study for the Knowledge Exam
You must pass a knowledge exam that includes a traffic rules test and a road signs examination in order to get your learner's permit. To pass each exam, you must properly answer at least 15 of the 20 questions. You may study and take a practice exam online using the DDS driver's handbook.
3. Apply for your permit at the DDS Customer Service Center.
Visit your local DDS facility to apply for your Georgia learner's permit after you have all of the requisite papers and feel prepared for the knowledge exam. Your learner's permit must be signed by your parent or guardian. You'll need to do the following at the customer support center:
•Pass a vision examination
•Successfully complete the knowledge exam
•Take a picture
•Pay the permit charge of $10.
•Show evidence of your connection with your parent or guardian, as well as confirmation of their identification.
You may apply for your provisional driver's license when you've had your instructional permit for at least one year and one day and are at least 16 years old.
How to Get a Provisional Driver's License (Class D)
1. Fulfill the requirements of Joshua's Law
Georgia will require 16- and 17-year-olds to finish an authorized driver's education course beginning July 1, 2021. There are a couple various approaches you might use to fulfill this criterion. Completing an online driver's education course at Aceable is the most convenient and cost-effective option. You can work on your course whenever and anywhere you choose, and there are a variety of tools to help you make it more interesting and easier to navigate.
2. Plan Your Visit Ahead of Time
Before visiting local DDS customer service facility, you must submit the relevant licensing form online, just like you did with your learner's permit. You'll also need to obtain proof of your identification and enrolment in school. Your road test must also be arranged online ahead of time.
3. Apply for a Provisional License at your local DDS Customer Service Center.
Bring your documents to the DDS Service Center with your parent or guardian when you feel secure in your driving abilities and are ready for the road test.
To receive your driver's license, you must pass a vision exam as well as a road skills test. Keep in mind that the driving skills exam will need you to bring your own car.
You may upgrade your provisional license to a full Class C license after you reach the age of 18.
