This project was a submission for the 2018 Paperboard Packaging Alliance Student Design Challenge. I worked with two talented graphic designers and one fellow packaging designer to design and create a monthly hot sauce subscription box. The goal of the subscription box was to promote reusability and create an "opening experience" for the customer. To meet these needs, we included a seed paper instruction card that informed the customer what was included in their box. This way, instead of throwing it away, the customer could plant their instruction card and grow their very own chili peppers to make their own hot sauce! In addition to the instruction card, we included a hot sauce, sweet sauce, olive oil, and a recipe card for how to make your own hot sauce at home. To keep customers interested, the hot sauce would be derived from a different part of the world each month- with a little blurb about that city displayed on the inside. To create the "opening experience", we designed multiple sliding reveals throughout the different packages to establish that surprise factor; the chili cutout on the shipping sleeve experiences a gradient as the sleeve is removed, the hot sauce creates a fire-breathing monster as the sleeve is removed, the sweet sauce creates a hearts and rainbows breathing lady monster, and the olive oil looks like it's pouring. Great team, amazing experience... and we won the competition!
