The HOPE Rocket has achieved 4th place at the Argonia Cup!
The Height Optimized Payload Ejector (HOPE) was the Wichita State Rocket Club's entry into the 2019 Argonia Cup Rocket Competition in Argonia, Kansas. The objective was to carry a payload up to 8000 ft via rocket, eject it, and have it land within a pre-designated area.
Propulsion Team Lead (Oct 2018 - Apr 2019)
Assistant Project Coordinator (Jan 2019 - Apr 2019)
• Simulated engine performance and flight dynamics in MATLAB and MS Excel
• Led motor comparison and selection process
• Assisted with motor and motor retention system assembly
• Tested altimeters and ejection charges
• Prepped for test launches
• Performed pre- and post-launch safety checks
• Contributed to the funding request document and the preliminary & conceptual design reports
• Wrote test launch, flight readiness and post-launch reports
I also taught statics, dynamics and rocket propulsion fundamentals to new members (including freshmen). This included creating a guide to rocket motor analysis in order to disseminate the information among club members and serve as a resource for future club members.
