As a member of the Honors Program at Cal Poly SLO, I had the opportunity to participate in a two-part course centered around sustainability: HNRS 161/162- Creating Sustainable Communities. The exploration I engaged in through this course has allowed me to dive deeper into environmental and social justice, two issues I am deeply passionate about. Insights were gained through different lenses, including economic, leadership, business, and more. The interdisciplinary discussion facilitated by a diverse class of different majors allowed me to comprehend sustainability from angles I had never considered before. This class opened my eyes to new perspectives, connected me with the Cal Poly community, promoted self-reflection, and facilitated my professional development in the eyes of a current environmental and social crisis.
