Description:
You are required to make 2 different signal flow diagrams, one for each of the setups listed below.
You can either create these diagrams with your computer, or draw them by hand and take photos of them. Either way, they need to look as clean as possible!
These diagrams have to include the following:
Every piece of equipment used in the setup (put each one in a rectangular box on the diagram)
Every audio cable needed to connect the various pieces of equipment (make sure they are labeled clearly on the diagram)
Arrows pointing in the correct direction that the signal is flowing for each audio cable
The diagrams should not include the following:
anything about AC power - only connect things up with audio cables!
Anything involving stands (mic stands, speaker stands, etc)
Anything about locations (stage, FOH, monitor world, etc)
The diagrams are merely signal flow diagrams so that another engineer would know exactly how to connect each piece of equipment together if you were to hand the diagram to them.
Setup #1:
This event will be a live music showcase taking place in a book store. The artist requires a vocal mic and a DI box for their acoustic. There will be 2 Mackie Thump speakers on stands that we will set up on either side of the performer so the audience can hear the sound. No monitors are required. The following gear is available for you:
(1) Shure SM58 vocal mic
(1) Whirlwind mono D.I. box
(1) Allen & Heath Zed 10 Analog Mixer
(2) Mackie 12" Thump speakers
As well as any audio cables you see as necessary to connect all equipment.
Setup #2:
This event will feature a DJ performing at the grand opening of a new shoe store. The DJ requires a Pioneer DJ mixer, connected in stereo, that she will be playing her tracks through. She also needs a single vocal microphone. She also requires a single stage monitor. Because we want the DJ to be loud and have good low end, subwoofers are a must for the setup.
The following gear is available to you for this setup:
(1) Pioneer DJM-900NXS DJ mixer (with Left and Right XLR outputs)
(1) Shure SM58 Vocal Mic
(1) Mackie 1202-VLZ4 Analog Console
(1) DBX 233xs stereo 2-way crossover
(2) JBL PRX815W Active Speakers (for stereo mains)
(2) JBL PRX815XLFW Active Subwoofers (for subs)
(1) JBL PRX812W for DJ monitor
