High Performance Computing (HPC) is the recently developed technology in the field of computer science, which evolved due to meet increasing demands for processing speed. HPC brings together several technologies such as computer architecture, algorithm, programs and system software under one canopy to solve advanced complex problems quickly and effectively. This technology focuses on developing and implementing methods like parallel processing, cluster processing and distributed processing for solving problems.
In this project we have explored Parallel Processing approach of high performance computing technique in processing of remote sensing data. For this we have used different programming languages like .NET, python and C to develop an application that could process remote sensing data in parallel through optimum usage of processor cores via message passing interfaces (MPI). We wrote a program in python and C to understand the PARAM environment. A console application for image rotation in C language is also tested using MPI. A program to read and transmit image data between different processes was developed using python. This study suggested that PARAM Yuva-II supercomputer is suitable for developing a satellite image processing application using python, C & C++ programming language.
