The purpose of our project is to accommodate wheelchair users by allowing them to raise and lower their seat at will. Team Tau’s wheelchair design will allow wheelchair users to effectively pick objects up off of the ground without having to strain themselves as well as allow people to sit at a comfortable desired height while they are using the chair. We have designed the chair to travel from the original height of 18 inches down to the ideal height of 10 inches which allows the user to reach objects and tasks on the ground. We started off with a design matrix for the lift and used that to narrow down our ideas. With our narrowed focus we went more in depth with each idea and decided on a scissor lift. After many hand drawings, prototypes, and solid models, we came up with the final product.
