Formula SAE is a competition designed for students that is organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), to be able to achieve hands on experience and application of the knowledge gained from engineering courses. The main goal of our paper is to design the steering system for a Formula SAE car to address all the shortcomings of previous designs, yet retain the low cost, manufacturability, and low weight. The purpose here is to make an adjustable steering column which can adjust in two mechanical ways. The first being a tilting mechanism and the second being a sliding or telescoping mechanism. The tilting mechanics will allow the column to tilt itself about a pivot point in order to change the height of the steering wheel with respect to the driver’s line of sight. Also, a proximity parameter is important to consider since it will allow the driver to move the steering wheel closer to or farther away from the driver. This steering system will allow the race car to take turns at high speed as desired during the race competition while keeping user adjustability in mind. The steering system is to be compliant with all the relevant rules of the FSAE official rulebook.
