NR 425 Applied Resources Analysis and Assessment lab’s primary focus was to reinforce the importance of the writing of CEQA/NEPA documents. The course was designed to provide people with knowledge on legal and procedural regulation-driven environmental analysis. Oliver, along with three other group members prepared a Project Environmental Impact Report for the Froom Ranch Project located in San Luis Obispo, CA. Throughout the quarter, Oliver walked through the steps necessary for managing a project. The project consisted all parts needed to complete draft environmental impact report (i.e., Executive Summary, Introduction, Project Description, Environmental Impact Analysis, Alternative Analysis, Other CEQA Considerations, and References and Preparers).
The Froom Ranch Environmental Impact Report Project consists of many aspects in regards to a project. Oliver and his group worked as a team to complete the 73-page document in a relatively short amount of time. With hard work, great communication, affective time management, and problem solving Oliver was able to successfully complete the project in the slotted time frame. Working affectively in a group is key to success in the real world. At the end of the project, a 30-minute presentation was given on the Environmental Impact Report. This project showcases Oliver's time management, his ability to problem solve, and ability to work and communicate affectively within a team environment.
Throughout the project Oliver's writing skills, time management skills, and public speaking skills improved drastically. It helped that my group members and I would peer review our documents every time before we submitted the lab each week. Throughout college his public speaking skills have been improving but throughout this project they increased drastically. He learned that with great preparation comes good public speaking.
This project definitely has some relevancy to what I want to do later on in life. Oliver eventually wants to get his masters sustainable management with a concentration on renewable energy. With management comes working together in a group with people effectively and efficiently.
