In this lab, my group members and I explored the Finite Element Analysis feature in SolidWorks. We started with a standard beam and made changes on the fixtures, global element size, and the elements. We then analyzed the von Mises stresses and maximum deflection and compared them to our hand calculations. I learned how Finite Element Analysis works and I am interested in learning more. It was challenging to translate what we saw on paper into our model but it became easier as we continued on the project.
