Engaged in the System Development Life Cycle(SDLC) process for a hotel reservation system for Wild West Hotel. Main objective of this project was to provide the hotel with a customized solution that was feasible to the organization while meeting all of the requirements as outlined by the project sponsor in which the system would provide a user-friendly interface that will speed up the reservation procedures, provide quality-enhanced reports, and minimize errors.
Several deadlines of deliverables were completed for this project. A project plan with a Gantt chart was created via MS Project so that we could identify and manage the project tasks throughout the life cycle of the project. From there, we performed a feasibility analysis of the technical, economical, and organizational feasibilities of the system to ensure that the system would synergize well with the organization. We created a requirements definition document that lists the functional and nonfunctional requirements of the proposed reservation system. After listing the requirements, we created a UML diagram and outlined the descriptions, triggers, pre-conditions, normal course, post-conditions, and exceptions for a set of use cases for the system. The use cases pertained to:
1. Representative initiates a request for reservation.
2. Representative makes a cancellation request for customer.
3. Admin can generate an analytics report to fulfill a request from marketing department.
Also, we structured the flow of the data in the system through logical and physical data flow diagrams by using MS Visio. The Physical Data Model indicates how the relational database will be structured, where data will be stored, intended primary keys, and their cardinal relationships. We also created a hardware-software specification, an ISD(Interface Structure Diagram), and user interface prototypes to exemplify and optimize the system interface and procedures.
