Part 1: Bicycle Frame
Performed structural analysis with ANSYS on a sample bike frame to test out different materials (Titanium, Structural Steel, Aluminum Alloy, Carbon Fiber, and Bamboo). Applied boundary conditions for 2 case scenarios focusing on expected stress from rider and flat ground. Solved analysis for stress and strain due to load and ranked each material according to the following criteria: Lowest weight, lowest maximum strain, and lowest maximum stress. Checked convergence data for the stress and strain analysis for different mesh element sizes.
Part 2: Competition Airplane
Performed Fluid analysis on NYU Aero competition plane to locate key pressure points and measure lift to drag ratio. Simplified original plane model for efficient calculation while minimizing output quality loss. Recommended changes/improvements to the team based on results.
