Purpose is to demonstrate application of community health concepts and principles in relationship to the family as the client. Related concepts include: ethics, social determinants of health, theories of vulnerability and stress, interpersonal violence and child abuse and neglect. The student is to apply the nursing process within the context of the family in community. The Grape family serves as the family provided for the case study. The student is to conduct a “virtual” health assessment using the genogram, identify a family nursing diagnosis and mutual family goals. Students are to assess the community for resources that are helpful and/or stressful to the family and identify them using an eco-map. Students will identify a family theory that helps build a framework to explain family function and dysfunction. Using the community nursing process the student will create a mutual plan with the family.
