The purpose of this project was to find a broken part and explore how and why the part initially broke and then propose a redesigned model of the part to combat such a break in the future. The part analyzed in the report was an adjustable weight used in a TaylorMade fairway wood which failed in shear. Using basic failure theories, a theoretical failure force was solved for and subsequently tested using a 3D model of the part in conjunction with ANSYS Workbench. Static structural ANSYS simulations were utilized to test the original part and the redesigned model to help prove the redesign was successful. To help simplify the problem a list of assumptions was incorporated into the report. Ultimately, the redesigned model was able to withstand the original failure force while simultaneously maintaining the functionality of the original part.
