In order to fulfill the requirements of the EVSP695 Capstone Portfolio course and obtain a Master of Science in Environmental Policy and Management from American Public University, I submitted a Critical Reflection Paper (CRP) demonstrating my key learning progressions and outcomes from the program. The CRP is one of three final requirements of the course which also culminated with a three-minute thesis (3MT) video presentation and corresponding slide.

Completion of the program curriculum necessitated 36 credit hours of core requirements (EVSP500 Research Methods for Environmental Science and Policy, EVSP501 Environmental Management, EVSP502 Environmental Economics, EVSP503 Environmental Policy, Regulation, and Law; EVSP508 Environmental Ethics, and EVSP594 Environmental Toxicology), concentration requirements (EVSP506 Restoration Ecology, EVSP507 Conservation Biology, EVSP558 Watershed Management, and EVSP628 Global Environmental Change), a level 500-600 elective course (EVSP561 Elements of Sustainable Design), and the final program requirement (EVSP695 Capstone Portfolio).

Having enrolled in the program with a humanities-driven academic and creative professional background, my CRP focused on unearthing the convergence and integrative applications of art and science.

The major components of the paper include the Introduction and Philosophy of Learning sections, both personal accounts that highlight my learning experience in the program; Achievement in Learning, which provides an overview of courses completed within the program curriculum; Evidence of Learning, in which I illustrate how the learning objectives were attained by describing select artifacts from my digital portfolio; Assessment of Learning, which discusses how my competency of the course topics was measured with the submission of weekly assignments and major projects; Relevance of Learning, which demonstrates how my mastery of the programmatic learning objectives have influenced the personal and professional domains of my ethical and moral growth; and Learning Goals which details how I intend to apply my learning to my desired career of Outreach and Communications Coordinator. Additionally, a Job Documents section provides an example of a recent resume and cover letter I used for a communications position with an environmental organization.
